A meeting was held between the National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine and a delegation from the Swedish Armed Forces, led by the Rector of the Swedish Defence University. The Swedish delegation also included representatives of the Karlberg Military Academy and the Swedish Armed Forces.
The event was attended by the Commandant of the National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine, as well as the heads of the Educational and Scientific Institutes of Logistics, Professional Education, and Training of Senior Leadership. The main focus of the meeting was to familiarize the participants with the specific features of the respective educational institutions, explore potential avenues for experience exchange, and discuss prospective areas of cooperation for 2026, as well as already planned joint activities.
Colonel Andrii Manko, Commandant of the National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine, presented the structure of the institution and highlighted the key changes recently implemented to optimize the educational process, enhance its effectiveness, adapt it to contemporary security challenges, and integrate combat experience into the educational curriculum.
The foreign partners were presented with the Academy’s training and material base, including practical training components for crews of unmanned ground and aerial systems, as well as the execution of live-fire and artillery fire missions using various types of interactive simulators.
The parties discussed expanding cooperation in the field of Professional Military Education (PME), including the involvement of representatives from the Swedish Defence University in the joint development of educational programmes, the conduct of binational training sessions, and the promotion of active academic mobility for both students and faculty members. Given the specific role of the National Guard of Ukraine, representatives of the Swedish Defence University also discussed opportunities for cooperation in the field of law enforcement and the development of joint research projects. Particular attention was paid to cooperation within the framework of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), in which the Academy was granted associate partner status in October 2025.
As a result of the meeting, the “Plan of Joint Activities for 2026 between the Swedish Defence University, the Swedish Military Academy Karlberg, the Swedish Army Academy, and the National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine” was signed.
