How cadets practiced English with the Canadian military
The National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine hosted a regular meeting of the English language group "D-club".
This time, with the support of the lecturers of the Department of Philology, Translation and Strategic Communications and the military of the Canadian Joint Task Force in Ukraine (Operation UNIFIER) the club was held in the format of interactive communication game Jeopardy.
The task of each team was to answer the questions selected on the given topics and get the maximum number of points. The team leaders were UNIFIER servicemen. Lecturers of the Department of Philology, Translation and Strategic Communications, Associate Professors Anastasiia Koval, Liudmyla Sinna and Marharyta Miahka acted as facilitators of the process, monitored each stage of the game and directed its progress.
"The aim of the game was not only to immerse into the language environment, to form visual and auditory perception of information in English, but also to develop communication skills and teamwork skills. The key point of the game was effective communication between team members and their leaders, as well as the exchange of knowledge about the historical, geographical and everyday realities of Canada and Ukraine", – said Liudmyla Sinna.
According to the lecturer, the use of the game form and the possibility of direct communication with the native English speakers stimulate the cognitive process of cadets, as well as increase their motivation to learn foreign languages.
"For us it is an unforgettable experience! An interesting game helped many of us to overcome the language barrier and activate the material we taught. We are very grateful for the opportunity to communicate with the native speakers!" – said cadet Anna Hontkovska.
