How the Canadian Armed Forces military taught cadets leadership skills

The leadership club with cadets from the Faculty of Humanities was conducted at. the National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine.

The curator of the club – Professor of Philology, Translation and Strategic Communications, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Polina Tkach and the representatives of the Canadian Joint Task Force in Ukraine  (Operation UNIFIER) shared their knowledge and experience in military leadership with first-year of training cadets.

Captain Trevor Smith and Warrant Officer Lindsay Waterspoon told about the importance of the relationship between officer and sergeant, the main areas of work with personnel, the establishment of relation in the newly formed military team for a real leader.

"Such meetings are extremely important because thanks to the exchange of experience of other countries, it is possible to quickly and more interestingly acquire knowledge in the field of leadership, which is an integral part of the future graduate of the National Guard of Ukraine. And thanks to the fact that the club was held with native speakers, the cadets had the opportunity to improve their communication skills", said Polina Tkach.

In addition, Warrant Officer Lindsay Waterspoon shared his experience in the field of combat missions and noted the importance of team coherence.

The cadets were interested in questions about the types and ways of encouraging personnel and about possible options for advanced training of junior officer’s staff.

The leadership club is regularly held at the Department of Philology, Translation and Strategic Communications, cadets of the first year of studying of command and staff and humanities faculties are involved into it.
